2016 Chevy Malibu vs. 2016 Nissan Altima
2016 has certainly been a busy year for Chevrolet, and a look at the all-new Malibu midsize sedan is proof positive of this fact. Now lower, longer and lighter than ever before, the 2016 Chevy Malibu has adopted a smoother and more rear-slung design silhouette, putting it more in line with its Cruze and Impala siblings. It also adds an all-new turbocharged powertrain and incorporates a hybrid into the lineup, putting competitors such as the 2016 Nissan Altima on notice. So, how do the 2016 Chevy Malibu and 2016 Nissan Altima compare head to head?
First off, about that turbocharged powertrain. In order to get more from its underhood components, the 2016 Chevy Malibu now offers a 2.0L ECOTEC Turbo, which employs an 8-speed automatic transmission to generate 250 horsepower. This allows the Malibu to greatly outpace the Altima’s standard powertrain -- a 182-hp 2.5L four-cylinder -- while being lighter on its feet than the Altima’s 3.5L V6. It also offers a greater degree of technological savvy, with its available 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, while its 10 standard airbags (compared to just six for the Altima) ensure that all five adult occupants remain safe in the Malibu as well.

It’s rare that a model like the Malibu would undergo such a thorough redesign, particularly because most agree that the outgoing Malibu model was pretty great to begin with. However, when Chevy saw an opportunity to change the game for midsize sedan drivers, it wasn’t content to let the chance pass them by. The result is the 2016 Chevy Malibu, a stylish and sophisticated sedan that rewards buyers with outstanding fuel efficiency, terrific style, and more interior passenger volume than ever before.
In addition to its standard 1.5L Turbo four-cylinder, the all-new Malibu is reintroducing a Hybrid for the new model year. The 1.8L two-mode hybrid rewards buyers with up to 47 city mpg, numbers good for best-in-class status. Meanwhile, with all-new crash-mitigation features such as front automatic braking, adaptive cruise control and front parking assist helping to keep drivers safe, the 2016 Chevy Malibu has put all of its competitors on notice.
