2016 Chevy Camaro Engine Options
With its release set for fall of 2015, the 2016 Chevy Camaro is already making waves at Jack Burford Chevy. Nearly fifty years into its iconic run, our famed pony car has gotten major upgrades for its sixth generation, giving all of us a great excuse to learn all we can about its features. Perhaps the most exciting news recently has involved the 2016 Chevy Camaro Engine Options, which promise to offer something a little different for every type of prospective buyer. So, let’s take a quick peek under the hood, shall we?
The Camaro engine lineup features a Turbo-4, a V6 and a V8, so we’ll go in this same order. Newly available for 2016, the 2.0L Turbo Inline-4 makes terrific use of the Camaro’s reported 200-pound weight loss. All of the new powertrains will be offered with the option of an 8-speed automatic transmission, and when this is paired with the 275 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque whipped up by the 2.0 Turbo, you’d better believe that the level of performance is every bit as exciting as you’d expect. And, since this returns up to 30 highway mpg as well, this is likely to be the choice for drivers who enjoy agility and fuel efficiency above all else.
Which 2016 Chevy Camaro Engine will you choose?
As partial as we are to the 2.0L Turbo, it only gets beefier from here. In the middle of the lineup, the 2016 Chevy Camaro offers a powertrain that is the best of both worlds: a 3.6L V6. You might remember that the outgoing Camaro offered an engine with this same displacement, but that’s where the similarities end. It now uses Variable Valve Timing to conserve fuel, as well as the eight-speed automatic we mentioned above. Overall, drivers can expect this configuration to achieve 335 hp and 284 lb-ft of torque, and its fuel economy should tip higher than in past years as well.
Rounding out the engine lineup is the one we’ve all been waiting for: The SS-only 6.2L LT1 V8. Yes, this is the one that can also be found in the Corvette, which has already gotten many drivers salivating. This has been said to the most powerful production SS ever created, and the proof is right there in the numbers: 455 hp and 455 lb-ft of earth-shaking torque. Using a small-blog construction to trim weight, this engine is still light on its feet. And, given its sub-five-second 0-to-60 sprint, we figure the gearheads will love it as well.
