2016 Chevy Silverado 1500 vs. 2016 Nissan Titan XD
For those who haven’t been paying attention, a headline stating “2016 Chevy Silverado 1500 vs. 2016 Nissan Titan XD” might seem like a mean joke. After all, the Silverado 1500 has been making short work of the Titan for as long as most of us can remember. But now, with the Titan enjoying a full redesign for the new model year, could it be that the Nissan model has finally taken over its Chevrolet counterpart?
Not hardly. Despite some great gains from the 2016 Nissan Titan XD, the Silverado 1500 isn’t ready to just surrender the throne. Regardless of which Titan XD powertrain that a buyer prefers -- the 5.6L Endurance V8 or the Cummins 5.0L Turbo-Diesel -- the highest horsepower rating still belongs to the Silverado 1500, with 420 hp coming from the 6.2L V8. Additionally, the highest fuel economy ratings are earned by the Silverado 1500, while its 12,000-pound towing capacity is the highest trailering capacity to come from a standard trailer hitch. (The Titan XD’s 12,300-pound capacity requires an upgrade to the integrated gooseneck hitch.) Factor in the available, first-in-class 4G LTE WiFi hotspot offered by the Chevy Silverado 1500, and it becomes clear that it’s simply operating on a different plane than the competing Titan XD.
