Charging Your Chevy Bolt by Electric Car Charger

The EPA estimates the range of the Chevy Bolt to be an impressive 238 miles. That’s far more than the 151 miles you’ll get with a Nissan LEAF, but you’ll still eventually need to recharge, and when you do, you have options. Here’s how long it takes to charge a Chevy Bolt by type of electric car charger:

  1. Level 1 Basic Charging: Charger your Chevy Bolt with this standard type of charger (120-volt, which is accessible via a standard grounded household outlet) and you’ll get 4 miles of charge per hour. With this option, a 12-hour charge gives you about 48 miles of range, so it’s best to use this method as an overnight option. It’s also recommended to charge your vehicle every day using this option so that the battery never runs out as you drive around Winchester or London.
  1. Level 2 Fast Charging: Level 2 or fast charging uses a 240-volt charger and yields roughly 25 miles per hour of charge. With the level 2 charging system, you need to have the plug professionally installed by an electrician if installing at home. That said, the initial added cost is well worth it for many Irvine EV drivers because as the saying goes, “time is money.” Do you drive 40-50 miles a day? If so, you could fully recharge the battery of your Chevy Bolt in about 2 hours with level 2 charging, For a full recharge, it should take 9.5 hours using this method. Most public charging stations are fast charging stations.
  1. Super Fast Charging: Some public stations provide super fast EV charging. This option yields 90 miles of range in around 30 minutes of charging time. To use this method, your 2020 Chevy Bolt must be equipped with the available DC Fast Charge port. DC Fast Chargers are available at an extra cost for Bolt owners and is useful if you’re out and need to fully charge your battery. This electric car charger replenishes up to 160 miles of range in just about an hour.
