How Many Seats Are in a 2023 Chevy Traverse?
Growing families love the Chevy Traverse. It has ample seating and a generous cargo capacity so you can load up and head out on your latest family adventure. You also get the newest in-vehicle tech to stay connected and entertained no matter where you travel. So, if you’re in the market for a midsize SUV with style, space, and impressive capability, look closely at the 2023 Chevrolet Traverse.
2023 Chevrolet Traverse Seating Arrangements
Chevy designed the Traverse for maximum comfort no matter where you sit. Three rows offer eight seats in the 2023 Chevy Traverse, depending on your configuration. A second-row bench comes standard on the Traverse LS and is available on the LT model. Or the RS, Premier, or High Country trims come standard with captain’s chairs. So, while you lose a seat with these models, your second-row passengers enjoy elevated comfort and more leg, hip, and shoulder room.
The lower Traverse trims have premium cloth upholstery. However, as you move to the higher trims, you find leather-trimmed seats that heat and ventilate on the first and second rows. The passenger-side second-row seat features a tilt-and-slide function for easy access to the third row and operates even when there’s a car seat installed. The third-row split/folds in a 60/40 configuration to allow for various cargo and passenger configurations, and both the second and third rows fold flat to provide even more space for gear.
Cargo Capacities
The 2023 Chevy Traverse has 23 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, which expands to 57.8 cubic feet when you fold the third row flat. Folding the second and third rows flat opens up a best-in-class 98.2 cubic feet area, ideal for hauling large items or lots of gear.
A hands-free power liftgate simplifies loading your gear or groceries. Simply wave your foot beneath the rear bumper with the key fob on your person, and the gate swings open. You also have a hidden storage area beneath the cargo floor to keep items away from prying eyes.
Interior Passenger Room
The whole family will love the 2023 Traverse’s spacious cabin, which offers more hip, leg, shoulder, and headroom than other midsize SUVs in its class.
| Head Room | Leg Room | Shoulder Room | Hip Room | |
| Front Row | 42.8 Inches | 41.01 Inches | 61.91 Inches | 58.1 Inches |
| Second Row | 40.02 Inches | 38.41 Inches | 62.16 Inches | 56.91 Inches |
| Third Row | 38.21 Inches | 33.48 Inches | 57.5 Inches | 48.5 Inches |
As the table shows, there’s plenty of space in each row to make the family comfortable. You also have options for power-adjustable and power-folding seats in all three rows.
2023 Chevrolet Traverse Infotainment
Your in-vehicle tech runs through the 8-inch touchscreen mounted in the center stack powered by the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Plus system. Chevy preloaded this system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth technology to allow for hands-free operation of your cell phone. Once you sync your smartphone, you can make calls, answer texts, access navigation, and stream your favorite playlists using simple, intuitive voice commands.
Chevy also includes Alexa Built-In, so you can take your favorite home assistant wherever you go and communicate with your Alexa-connected home devices. For example, by asking Alexa, you can turn on your exterior lights from anywhere as you drive. In addition, a range of popular apps, such as Spotify, come pre-installed on your infotainment system, and you can access all your favorite apps through the App Store or Google Play. Every new Traverse comes with a free trial subscription to SiriusXM satellite radio.
2023 Chevrolet Traverse Performance
The Chevrolet Traverse features a capable front-wheel-drive platform. However, if you enjoy leaving the pavement behind on your family excursions, opt for all-wheel drive for enhanced traction and control over various surfaces and weather conditions.
Chevy uses a 3.6-liter V-6 engine with variable valve timing and spark ignition direct injection technology. In addition, a nine-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission delivers smooth, responsive performance. This powertrain produces 310 horsepower, 260 lb-ft of torque, and tows up to 5,000 pounds with the proper equipment. The Traverse achieves up to 27 mpg when driving on the highway, so you won’t spend a fortune at the pump.
2023 Chevrolet Traverse Driver-Assist Technology
More and more drivers want their SUVs equipped with the latest driver-assist tech, and Chevy listened. Every Traverse now has the Chevy Safety Assist suite of driver-assist systems designed to enhance your Richmond commute and keep you safe.
The suite includes Forward Collision Warning (FCW), which uses cameras and radar to scan the way ahead for obstacles and sends visual and audio alerts when it detects a possible collision, giving you time to take corrective action. The system works with the Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system. If you fail to react after receiving an FCW alert, the AEB system engages emergency brake support to mitigate the severity of a possible accident. In some situations, this system can help you avoid an accident entirely.
A Front Pedestrian Braking (FPB) system uses similar technology to the FCW to detect pedestrians crossing in front of your Traverse. Your FPB system also works with the AEB system to help you brake if necessary. However, it loses some functionality at night and in low-visibility environments.
You also benefit from the Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning system, which uses sensors to track your Traverse when traveling within marked lanes. This technology alerts you when it detects an unintentional drift and can provide gentle steering input to help return you to your lane. In addition, your Traverse features a Following Distance Indicator that allows you to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead and avoid unsafe tailgating.
