2024 Silverado EV Preview

The electric truck market is about to get even more competitive with the impending launch of the all-new 2024 Chevrolet Silverado electric vehicle (EV) — a vehicle that promises to revolutionize transportation. For the first time in its history, the iconic Silverado nameplate will feature an electrified powertrain — a groundbreaking feat for the storied brand. Despite its similar appellation to Chevy’s bestselling vehicle, the Silverado EV is an altogether new car — from its platform and bodywork to every detail.

Most notably, the Silverado EV sports a sleek, aerodynamic front fascia and e-four-wheel-drive (e4WD) system for superior performance on the road, as well as a MultiFlex tailgate and eTrunk for enhanced storage capacity. To top it off, the interior of this Chevy EV is well equipped with Ultifi technology for an interactive infotainment experience. The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV will be available in two trim levels: the Work Truck (WT) and RST. The WT is the same base model found in the regular Silverado lineup. Additionally, Chevy has promised the release of additional trim levels to fill that gap, including an off-road-focused Trail Boss model. Our Jack Burford Chevrolet team compiled this quick overview of what the two trims offer.

• WT: At $39,000 MSRP, the WT trim will offer commercial users a plethora of technological features at a fantastic value. From the 11-inch infotainment touchscreen and 8-inch digital gauge display to dual-zone automatic climate control, this trim has a lot to love. Plus, plenty of USB ports allow easy charging and connection to your favorite device.
• RST: Upgrading to the top-level RST will unlock an even larger 17-inch infotainment screen and a 14-inch gauge display, perfect for those who like larger views. Additionally, the RST trim will have plenty of other benefits, including a head-up display that projects driving information onto the windshield, ensuring drivers are always aware of their surroundings. With all these features, the RST trim will set you back $105,000 MSRP.

Although Chevrolet has yet to release specifics on the Silverado EV’s infotainment system, we expect Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to be standard, with in-dash navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, and an on-board Wi-Fi hotspot also being part of the package.

Engine Specifications and Towing Capability

Under the hood, the Silverado EV will boast two electric motors. The entry-level WT trim will produce an impressive power output of 510 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque, while the RST trim steps up to a 664 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque rating. All-wheel drive and four-wheel steering will be standard, no matter which trim you choose.

Adaptive air suspension is available with the RST trim, and huge 24-inch wheels are an optional upgrade. Adventure-loving buyers should look into the Trail Boss model, outfitted with locking differentials and all-terrain tires for added off-road capability.

As for towing capability, the all-electric Silverado EV is rated to tow up to 8,000 lbs. with the WT variant and 10,000 lbs. with the RST First Edition. The payload capacity is also impressive at 1,200 and 1,300 lbs., respectively. A trailering package with an impressive 20,000-lb towing capacity will be available for commercial applications.

Battery Range, Capacity, and Charging Time

At launch, the Silverado EV RST First Edition and the WT variant will feature a 24-module 200 kWh battery pack with an estimated range of 400 miles. A 20-module 167 kWh battery pack option may also be available. The Ultium platform’s 800-volt system allows for 350 kW DC fast charging, recuperating 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

Buyers of either trim will have access to over 100,000 charging stations in North America through GM’s Ultium Charge 360 plan. This makes the Silverado EV a great choice for long-distance drives and towing, with a smooth and efficient charging experience.

Interior Cabin and Cargo Space

The electric Silverado interior cabin is designed to be comfortable, spacious, and full of features. The luxurious SUV-like interior makes it easy to stay safe and snug no matter how long the drive is, and you’ll have plenty of storage space for all your items.

The RST model will have a fixed glass roof, black-and-white two-tone leather upholstery with red piping, and the same passenger space as a regular Silverado crew cab pickup truck. For convenience, Chevrolet has opted for a column-mounted shifter, which creates space for a large storage bin between the dashboard and middle armrest.

The Silverado EV won’t be short on cargo capacity. The large cargo area in the back gives you plenty of space for all your equipment, making it an excellent option for people who need to bring a lot of stuff with them on the road. The standard bed size will be 5 feet, 11 inches, and the cab will feature a midgate — a hinged, folding section of the rear wall that opens up additional storage space. The 60/40-split rear seat allows for even more room when needed.

Safety and Technology Features

The Silverado EV will come standard with heaps of advanced safety features. These may include advanced cruise control, lane-keep assist, and automatic emergency braking. Chevrolet has yet to reveal all of the standard driver-assistance features that’ll be included on the Silverado EV, but it has been reported that the RST trim will offer GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving system. The Silverado EV isn’t currently rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, but it likely will be once it’s released.

The all-electric Silverado EV will be a game changer in the pickup truck segment. It offers impressive towing capabilities, plenty of interior space, and a generous battery range and charging time.
