Bad Fan Control Module or PCM Glitch

Some Silverados use a dedicated fan control module between the PCM and fan motor. When it fails, the fan can run continuously or erratically. If the issue originates in the PCM itself, it’s more complex, since the PCM controls many vehicle functions and requires proper programming to replace.

PCM diagnosis requires specialized software and calibration tools, and tracing a short through a wiring harness without proper diagrams is time-consuming and easy to get wrong.

A fan running indefinitely after shutdown draws power directly from the battery and will eventually leave you stranded. Beyond the inconvenience, a malfunctioning fan circuit can mask a genuine overheating problem, risking warped cylinder heads, a blown head gasket, or worse. Treating it as a minor annoyance is a gamble that rarely pays off.
