Cleaning Car Dash and Windshield

How to Clean the Inside of Your Windshield

To ensure proper visibility on the road in Richmond, it’s important to clean both the outside and inside of your windshield. In the guide below from our auto repair center, we’ll show you how to clean a car windshield using a microfiber towel, glass cleaner, and rubbing alcohol.

If you notice distracting streaks or blurry areas on your windshield, then it’s probably time for a thorough cleaning! After cleaning the outside of your windshield, follow these steps for how to clean inside car windows:

  • First, use a microfiber cleaning cloth to wipe down the glass and remove excess dirt and grime.
  • Spray the microfiber cloth with your preferred brand of glass cleaner, and wipe down the inside of the windshield. This should capture any debris still remaining on the glass.
  • To cut grease buildup inside the window, apply rubbing alcohol to a clean microfiber cloth. This step will ensure great visibility when you get back on the road in Winchester!
  • Finally, one last application of glass cleaner (or glass polish) will give your windshield a little extra shine.

Can You Use Windex on Car Windows?

Many drivers wonder if and when common household cleaners are safe to use on vehicle surfaces. So, can you use Windex on car windows? Yes! While we’ve heard claims that Windex isn’t safe to use on tinted windows, there’s no evidence that Windex with ammonia causes any harm. That said, you may want to avoid it if the tint was added to your car windows by a third party, rather than a certified dealership. Keep in mind that glass cleaners like Windex may cause drying or discoloration if they come into contact with leather car seats.

If you’re in doubt about using any product on your car’s exterior or interior surfaces, just reach out to our service center! An expert technician on our team will be happy to tell you more about which products are safe.

More Car Windshield Cleaning Tips

  • Paper towels tend to leave small paper fibers and streaks behind on the glass, but you can eliminate those issues by using microfiber cleaning cloths.
  • A reach-and-clean tool is essential for cleaning the top corners of the windshield.
  • Use a circular motion when cleaning with a microfiber cloth, and then finish off with a vertical stroke to remove streaks.
  • Now that you know how to clean a car windshield, you also know how to clean inside car windows! You can use the same cleaning process for your car’s windshield and window interiors.
